Michigan Supreme Court Appeals
The Supreme Court hears Michigan criminal cases in which there is debate over whether laws have been properly applied, and oversees the operations of Michigan’s trial courts. The court hears cases of appeals for review of Michigan Court of Appeals decisions, cases involving alleged judicial or attorney misconduct, as well as some matters in which the Supreme Court has original jurisdiction.
Appealing a case to the Michigan Supreme Court is the furthest one can go in the state legal system, and it is important to look at all available options before taking any legal action in your post-conviction case. You will need to file an application for leave to appeal with the Supreme Court clerk’s office, and your case will undergo a screening which will identify legal issues involved, look at past appeals and motions, and review related cases and their outcomes. A commissioner then makes a report, which recommends what the Supreme Court should do. Most applications for leave to appeal are denied, but working with a skilled attorney will ensure you do all you can to fight for a better result in the Supreme Court. Contact Grabel & Associates now to begin working in your post-trial case.
