The circuit court and the district court have jurisdiction over criminal matters in Emmet County. The Emmet County District Court handles misdemeanor cases that are not punishable by more than one year in jail, as well as preliminary examinations in felony cases, arraignments, setting and acceptances of bail, and trials and sentencing.
